how do you paint the sky on paper?

Remember that when painting an evening scene all your tones have to be on the dark side. including the landscape. If you use regular colors such as when you do a day scene, it will not work.
 
i have been painting this scenery.....well it has many trees, rocks, etc etc. the thing is i had planned to make a night sky or an evening- night sky. i painted it kinda dark blue. its not dark blue exactly..its not light either. its medium. but by the time i finished the painting, everything i have done is like as if it is daytime. but the sky is not suiting it.
please help me bcuz i have been working hard on it and i dont wanna redo it.
i would like only to change the sky. i hope you understood my problem. artists...plz help..
