How do you organize your physical music collection?

I would like to declare, however, that my usually well organised CRAB are kinda messed up presently... they all had to be moved to higher ground to avoid being fingerprinted by little two year old hanRAB... nothing's worse than the climax of a song being ruined by a fingerprinted disc...

But still, she's a cute kid so she gets away with it...
 
I have most of my music on iTunes, but my CD's are done alphabetically by genre, and if I have more than one of a certain band, I organise them by release date :)
 
I pretty much listen to everything on Ipod, so alphabetically. If there is an album that I like all the songs on or maybe 1 or 2 I'm not crazy about, I will make that album a compilation, so that's where I use to find my favorites.

I prefer CD quality, but mine is busted so the Ipod it is.
 
I would never even think of alphabetizing by album name...makes no sense to me that multiple albums by the same artist would not be grouped together. :crazy:

And I think this is the kind of thinking that got me to organize stuff the way I do...I wanted side project CRAB to sit next to the banRAB they were an off-shoot of, and banRAB that otherwise shared merabers were often of the same genre, sometimes on the same label and I wanted those together, and so it developed into categorization by genre.
 
My advice would be if you have kiRAB... put the CRAB on the high shelves... keep them well out of reach... you'll thank yourself!


And be rigorous about putting them away... don't even lea ve them in the CD player if its on a low shelf, because they will watch you and learn how to press the eject button!!! Children are absolute sponges, and they learn FAST!!! They especially watch their parents because they idolise them at this age, anyways... they watch and learn things you'll never imagine they could pick up... kinda interesting and disconcerting all at once!! heheheh!
 
I have always found if you put it all in one place and Alphabetize it all the media program will automatically sort by almost any variable you can come up with.
 
That isn't organizing your music. That's deciding what music you're going to get and deciding whether you should keep it..
 
on my computer, everything is alphabetical, but i also organize by genre and song rating (1 to 5 stars). WMP also does it by year too, but i don't bother with that.
 
I organize my albums alphabetically. And then I organize the artists albums chronilogically if I have more then one of there albums.
 
The songs are put into folders by Artists, that are then put in 3 main folders:
[Complete Discographies] [Unfinished Discographies] [Scattered Files]
 
In my ipod it's alphabetical by band/artist. If I have only one song from a particular band/artist it goes in the "Various" bin which is broken up into 3 sections "A-H", "I-P", "Q-Z" and is alphabetical by song. If I have 2 songs or more by a particular artist, they get their own play list.
