Hey guys, just a quick question. As far as novels go, what do you think makes a great beginning? And I mean the first paragraph of the first chapter sort of thing, the 'hook' that draws you in. For example...
Two characters talking to each other about something important; getting thrown right into the action with guns blazing; an introduction of the main character; establishing the setting of the novel; a startling, unexpected opening; an opening just so bizarre that you have to keep reading, etc. Sorry if those didn't make sense, but I think you know what I mean, right?
What kind of opening do you like best for a novel, generally? Why do you like that kind? And if you can, also tell me what kinds you DON'T like, the ones that bore you and make you want to put the book down.
Thanks so much!
Jen
