How do you know when you're ready to join the military?

I am a senior in high school and i want to join the military to do something in the medical field. I don't know if it would be better to join right out of high school or do 2 years of college then join or 4 years then join. I am confused but i know i want to join i just don't know when. I need advice because i don't want to do something that i will regret...
