How do you know when you hit your head..too hard?

I would probably get it checked out. The actress, Natasha? (can't remember her name) hit her head was laughing, said she was fine and the next day she was gone. Worse scenario, of course.

My wife was in the basement and under the stair is the support wall so to speak and she was not paying attention looking at something else and her head hit the wall support. She said that when she hit her head, it was a hard hit bit really didn't hurt all that much but scared her more than anything because she said when she hit, she could feel it in her sinuses for a second. I asked where she hit on her head and it was like around the hair line where her calic is. There is a small bump but nothing else more than that I can see.

Being her her late 40's, I am concerned because I don't know how hard is too hard. Also, could this cause her possibly problems later on like a brain tumor? I don't know. Never had this one before. Thanks to all who can help.

Sometimes when a person gets hit they can have a concussion and it might not show sypmtoms right away, but later on. A licensed health professional could always be consulted. If there are symptoms such as headache, unconsciousness, dizziness, vomiting, vision problems or any new symptoms it might be cause for investigation. A friend of mine had a 2 by 4 hit his head and he lost part of his vision, I think right away or soon afterwards

Well I read on the net that the worst and most critical mistake that concussion patients make is that they do not get evaluated within 24-72 hours of the event. Also, amnesia may show up a week later, What can happen is that a slow bleed can build up pressure inside the head stretching axons or other important structures and permanent damage can occur. Other symptoms can include tinnitus and maybe others I already forgot.
Luckily she didn't lose consciousness but that might not necessarily mean she is totally out of the woods yet. Maybe you could call the health professional so you don't have to worry anymore.

I remember that story. Her ordeal all happened within 4 hours or so. She was reported as not feeling well which is what led her to the hospital about 4 hours after the fall when they discovered the problem.

Yes, Ihad her go into an Urgent care cinic andthey did a cat scan and said there was no bleeding so that gave me a lot of relief. I am very thankful for these boards!! Thanks to everyone!!
