sell? I am learning to oil paint, and have a real talent for it (I mean, I REALLY am learning fast). People I know say that these paintings are very good & people would buy them and you can't possibly tell I'm a beginner. I have a consistent style. I can't take any art classes because there are none nearby (I am very rural). So I have trouble getting feedback.

Soooooooo how do I know if I am ready for prime time? At this point, I just want to pay for my materials. I wanted to do rustic sawblade paintings, but others say the work is already too good for something like that. I do landscapes in a naturalistic style. I was trained as a geologist so my mountains and other rock formations look really nice :-) In this case, though, I am from minnesota, so I would paint a lot of lakes and swamps and loons and deer.

Otherwise, I was just going to frame the ones I'm doing in barnwood & try and hang them up in local restaurants.

thanks!!

If it sells, you will know. But don't give up on the first attempt. See how many people bid for it on eBay.

ask your friends first. what is good and bad about it. fix it up. then try to sell them.
if you can, get a professional artist to look for bad points so you can fix it up.

i do oil painting too.
i started in 5th grade and now i'm in 7th grade.
thanks for giving me an idea...maybe i should start selling!

In most towns local venues and community art centers have a monthly art walk where the public walks from venue to venue viewing art, drinking wine and sometimes buying...find out how to become a participating artist and go for it. It will allow you to hang your art for a month in the public view with little or no pain. Take a drive into town and give yourself a shot at it.
Ebay is another possibility and a website of your own would be another and look to existing outdoor websites to sell you type work

Don't let sales decide if you are "good enough" sometime sales lag well behind talent. Good luck.

I don't listen to what people say about my work because I can't tell if they are placating. I know my work is good because people buy it.
