How do you know if a subwoofer speaker has blown, and how do you fix it?

one of my two 1200 watt subs in the back of my car has blown and i cannot tell which one, how can i tell and how would i be able to fix it, if i cover up one of the air holes, one sub works, this happens for each sub. But which one is broken?
