How do you Have Kids While Serving in the Military?

First, I am a female. I have wanted to be in the Marines since I was a kid, and now I am speaking with recruiters and making that dream come true. But ever since I was twelve, I have also dreamed of getting married and having kids. I know its POSSIBLE to be career military and have a family. Lots of people do it. But what happens if you are serving in the Marines and you get pregnant? Are you discharged? Or do they put everything on hold until you've given birth and recovered from the pregnancy?

Hey Danica, it's not as black and white as your question sounds like you want it to be. The Marines will give you time after your baby is born, the is based on FMLA and how much leave you have saved up, but will expect you back at work. As far as being discharged, the answer is generally no. But if you are a single parent and do not have arrangements to take care of your child if you get deployed, the Marines can discharge you. Like you said, many people have done it, so if you want to be a Marine and a mother, then do it! It won't be easy, but if you have a strong support system for you and your baby you will be able to make it and you will be happy. Good Luck!!!
