How do you get financial aid if..?

How do you apply for a grant for like a womens grant? i know someone that is wanting to get enrolled in college and all of her children are grown she is probably 45ish. i gave her the fafsa website but im wondering if this would even be where to direct her? she has no income. would she qualify? please if someone could walk me through this process like what website to go to and such it would be great so i can help her. thank you.

Also, can she just do some type of application for financial aid or a womens grant without having to apply to a certain college, shes unsure of what college she wants to go to and wanted first to see if she could get help with the tuition.

Your first instinct was correct. She should start with the FAFSA form. If you interested in attending school before July 1, 2010 then she need to complete the 2009 FAFSA which is available now. But if she is interested in starting school after July 1, 2010 then she needs to complete the 2010 FAFSA as soon as it becomes available next month.

WIth no income she should qualify for grants ( if this is her 1st BA/BS degree) and federal loans.

When she completes the FAFSA (either and both) she needs to indicate what school ( up to 10) she would like to receive her FAFSA info. She should enter the school even if she has not applied and definitely before she is admitted.
Once the school admits her she will receive an award letter detailing exactly how much aid se will be given for the year ( FALL &SPRING) and after her tuition is paid she will given any residual money back in the form of a check each semester.
She can go back and add or delete a school. Just read the FAFSA site carefully for the deadlines for corrections.
