How do you get built up stuck on grease off the fronts of cupboard doors?

I moved in to my grandparents house that they lived in for 50 years, and the cupboard above the stove has a film on it that is sticky. I think that it is grease, they dust and dirt from our fingers get stuck in it and th fronts look dirty.How do I removed the dirt and grease without ruining the finish?
