Im a 22 years old and I beleive i have acne because my face is not smooth i've got big and painful pimples all the time.

How do i treat it and how do i kow what type of acne do i have?

Hey before you put anything on it, try to eat healthier! Our skin is our largest organ and it is one place where the body eliminates the toxins in our body. Just watch what you're eating and maybe go to a natural healer before putting more chemicals on your skin

Most times its just hormonal, its not related to what you eat, or if you wash your face. It comes from inside-
Thats why its so tough to get rid of....

I believe it's a mixture of multiple variants.

- Hormonal activity going on as your body develops and changes, adjusting.

- Eating. Whatever you eat affects your skin. Which do you think would be healthier for your skin? Vegetables or a bag of potato chips? Just as to your body health, it's pretty obvious that the clear cut answer is: vegetables. I've noticed over my years as a teenager that I've been affected deeply by what I eat.

- Touching your face, dirtiness, how much you clean your face. I use to, and well I still do, have a bad habit of touching my face. Limit the times you make contact with your face by your hanRAB, wash your face at the maximum of 2-3 times a day, you should be OK.

Just take precautions.

From my own experience, and from what I've seen, there are many causes, as someone else said. I think the biggest causes are hormones and genetics. I think I have both problems, plus stress and lack of sleep. Some derms say stress or lack of sleep causing acne is a "myth." (I'm still not actually convinced that food does it. I'll eat healthy and like crap and still have pimples, either way.)

Thanks, eggheaRAB. It's not a myth that, after a night of 4 hours of sleep, my face is an oil slick, and in a day or two I'll have some big, fat pimples on my cheeks, near my nose.

Also, if you do some reading, you'll see the most common explanation: dead skins cells don't shed properly; the skin cells mix with oil in your pores, clogging them, and then the acne bacteria feed on this goop, blah blah, and you get a pimple.

That might be true for surface acne, but my acne seems to originate much deeper in the skin.
