How do you get a new animation spell in Guild Wars?

I am a level 8 elementalist/necromancer, and I want a new animation spell. My friend is a ranger/necromancer, and he got a ranged animation spell at level 4!!!! All I have is the stupid Bone Horror spell. He said he bought it from a skill merchant, but it wasn't there for me. He said when he got it, it said it was "unlocked." What does this mean? Please tell me how to get a new animation/minion spell!!!!
