my car is a 1999 pontiac grand am special edition and it randomly makes this ticking noise. it sounds exactly like the turn signal sound does. it makes it randomly and the turn signals dont even have to be on for it to do it. its really annoying and took it to the dealer, who took the whole console thing apart, but found nothing wrong. does anyone know what it could possibly be?

there are several relays under the dash... the dealer should be able to check them.[but they usually are such A-holes unless a computer scan tells them they can't figure it out]...what to do...figure out when its happening...speed...temperature etc...more info the better...if it happens during idle stop and stick ur head under dash...you may end up...upside down feet over the seat....look and feel ..most relays are little plug in boxes or like old time 35 mm film canisters......r ur sure its electric under dash and not a exhaust leak or valve train problem...

I had that same problem with my 95 ford taurus and it went on for months, drove me nuts because I pride myself as a technician, finally one day I solved the problem, My key chain on the steering column and the type of key chain I had, with the amount of keys, not all the time but just enough to bother me the keys and chain would make a ticking noise up against the steering column, I felt stupid and changed the type of key chain to another, end of noise.
