ive been riding about six months, ive taken the msf course, i ride an 82 kawasaki 550 ltd, i feel very comfortable on it.
god these sarcastic people just sound so stupid, it makes me sad to see how many idiots are out there.

Well it's a bit of an inane question, how does the public feel about you getting a bigger motorcycle, hmmm...how do you feel about me changing my grips to billet aluminum ? I thought so. Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer.

If you've taken the MSF course and you've been riding a 550 for six months without anyone getting killed then yes, I'd say you could get a sportbike if you wanted. Be aware that even a 600cc sport bike is going to be very different than a softie bike like your LTD. If all you wanted was to go faster, well yeah, it will certainly go faster, and it will handle better too. But you might find the seating position very different and maybe uncomfortable, at least until you get used to it.

The real hot sport bikes like the R6, GSX-R, CBR, are all about speed and handling at the expense of everything else. The steering geometry is twitchy and unforgiving. The seats are small and hard (because you get feedback from the road through your butt!) The riding position is extreme. What I'm saying is that maybe you feel comfortable on your LTD because it's a much more comfortable bike. 8^)

But if that's what you want, by all means go for it. At least you ought to be able to handle it. Good luck!
