Laptops, digital cameras, Ipod (high value), cell phones, etc..

Do you agree with giving children these things or no? What's the ideal age to give these kinds of presents? What conditions if any would you attach to these gifts? If you give your child an expensive gift, do they get anything else?
Just go with whatver age your kids are

Well, im 13 and im getting a laptop for christmas =)
Id say for the cell phone ideal age 12.
Laptop, 13 and up
And just video games 8 and up?
And if they break it as they say learn the hard way...
Hope this helps!

If they are of an age that they can take care of it, then I will give it to them. I wont do high end because they are kids. It is going to get damaged at some point. I think the first ipod was 6th or 7th grade. My 7 year old got one of my sons old ones(3rd or 4th) last year. She hasn't managed to break it yet. I don't think you can give conditions to kids except when they are allowed to use things. They are kids and stuff happens. it is just the way it is. As far as expensive, It all depends on our budget for that year. If I have it I will spend it on them. If I don't, I don't.

well this depends on their age.
my daughter has a cheap MP3 player and a kids digital camera.
my husband wants to get her a kids tough laptop(it's a real laptop for kids made to be drop proff and spill proff)
it also depends on how well the child understands and follows rules.
my daughter has been using our old computer since Christmas and she knows she can not eat or drink around it and she always asks what sites she is aloud on.

I have no problem giving these types of gifts to a child. I wouldn't judge by age on most things. I would look at how responsible the child is and use that as an indicator as to whether or not it is an appropriate gift. That being said, I think it is ridiculous to give a laptop to a child of any age. They should use a family computer set up in a "public" room in the house.

I think all gifts of these types should have some sort of rules. For example: Cell Phones would have time conditions (no phone after 9:00) and iPods can't go to school with you, or something like that.

Another deciding factor is whether or not you are financially able to afford it. Parents should not go into debt buying Christmas presents. If you can't afford to pay cash for it, you shouldn't buy it.

If you can afford it then go ahead. I like spending lots of money on kids, it's fun seeing their faces when they get that awesome present that they can't wait to rip open and brag to their friends about.

Why would their be any conditions? The only thing Santa says is that they gotta be good. What else is there?
