How do you do gardening and yard work without getting dirty?

I have to be able to drop everything at a moments notice to be available to help someone. No they can't be held up for me to get all cleaned up either.

Dirt goes with gardening. The question is how to make a rapid transition from gardener to caretaker. Coveralls and gloves would be a good start. All that would be necessary is a place to change and wash hands between the garden and site of other duties.

Practice the routine of changing several times to facilitate readiness. Then enjoy gardening.

This is what I do as I am in same type of situation. Put on a lightweight coveralls, and some workgloves. Then when called apon all you have to do is peel the coveralls off, and your already dressed to the shoes underneath. Also keep a nail brush near any sink, so you can make a quick scrub of hands. Wroks for me and has for years. when it gets really hot out, I just change my coverall to an even lighter weight material. At that point you havet o decide which is more important, your garden or looking presentable. I usually choose garden, but then again I can rember many a nights where I was outside with flashlights at 2-4 am working on garden. Hope this helps!

I use a thick woven shopping bag to kneel on and gloves to keep my hands clean. It only takes a second to put the gloves in the bag, sit it at the door, then leave. Nothing else gets dirty unless your either unlucky or clumsy.
