How do you cook your southern style pulled pork?

I am going out in the morning to buy a smoker and going to buy some pork butt roast and I am slow cooking it. this will be my first time making my own pulled pork. I have been craving home made pulled pork lately and im determined to make it. but I want to do my research first. how do you do yours? and with what kind of meat, wood, charcoal? and how long you smoke it? anything you know about a good say north carolina style pulled pork I hear that stuff is amazing!! thanks in advance
