How do you approach a doctor with your own research?

I've had pretty bad acne since forever, but I realized recently that it was probably exacerbated by my Mirena. I read about something called spironolactone that is an antiandrogen and will counteract the acne causing androgens from the Mirena.

I've encountered this situation before where I want to talk to the doctor about something, but they just brush off my concerns. More often than not, I feel that doctors don't really listen to what the patient wants and just follows their preferred methods. What's more, I feel like most times when patients bring in their own research, doctors just scoff at it (I mean, WE didn't go to medical school after all.) I want to at least talk to her about it, but I don't want to waste $60.

Any tips on getting my doctor to listen?
