How do we interpret the way ancient south american cultures practised their beliefs?

Was it literally just watching them in action or did the conquistadors stop to study the texts on the buildings or something?
Aye, but how did they interpret those sacrifices?

p.s; blood running in the streets was actually the result of the conflicts between the spanish and the aztecs.

The scale of that slaughter was something even the aztec high priests would never of dreamed of had the metal men not appeared on their shores.

Maybe it was all that blood running down the sides of their temples from the human sacrifices.

The Conquistadors just saw gold, as far as they were concerned the Aztecs were potential slaves.
