How do visually impaired people learn how to coordinate clothes?

I often wonder how blind people are able to be so independent, since I know how hard it is for me to manage without my contacts in and I knock my glasses off the night stand. How do visually impaired people learn how to travel by bus? Get dressed? Shop?
It makes me seem like a whiny brat when I imagine how they cope.
