how do u cite an author with III or Jr at the end of name?

For example when writing a scientific paper (not for the reference or citation page but within the actual paper):

he was the first king of england to rule with the strength of his people (Delain III et al 2001).

What would be the proper way to state the III in the Author's name?
(the above is a made up example)

Note: the authors name is written (for example) Mark Delain III at the top of the Scientific Journal

(the above is a made up example)
 
You will have to go with how the author's name appears in the original (in this case the 2001) paper. Most authors drop the suffix when they publish. Mark Delain III in that case would be cited in line as (Delain et al. 2001).
