How do people NOT see that religion dictates conservative politics?

Religion DRAMATICALLY affects these conservative "ideals":

-Abortion - religion has told people that aborting a fetus is wrong, even though we kill larger and more significant things all the time, specifically for food. It is religion and religion alone that has formed this idea, yet it invades our politics.

-Gay rights (or lack thereof)- Religion has told people that being anything other than heterosexual is deviant and unnatural. Usually when someone says they oppose gays getting married, their reason is that the Bible supposedly only recognizes unions between a man and a woman, but they can't give any other (more contemporary) reasons. What reasons besides religion have lawmakers cited in keeping this illegal in many states?

-Discrimination - perhaps most ironic of all, is that religion has, in this country at least, encouraged people to be distrustful of other faiths. It is usually conservative Christians who are okay with discouraging Muslims and others from being active, equal community members. Similarly, religious people have let their faiths blind them into thinking that NOT having a faith (atheism) is wrong, even evil.

How do people NOT see that they are letting religion dictate their politics, even though there is supposed to be separation of church and state? As far as I'm concerned, separation of church and state is NOT being followed. Any thoughts?
For anyone who says, so what, it doesn't matter: well, it does matter. A lot.

Conservatives USE religion to promote ideals when such a thing should be illegal. Faith in an invisible man should not affect the way you make decisions for an entire nation.
OKAY, and AGAIN: Did I EVER say that all conservative people are religious, or vice versa? All I said was oftentimes religion DICTATES conservative politics. It becomes ONE with their policy. I didn't say this applies to every conservative, or every religion person. In fact, I know this is wrong, and would be just as STUPID of an assumption as most religious people make about atheists :)
Ya'll are so stupid it makes me laugh :-P
Okay okay, lol I can't help myself. Let's do a poll of who here is religious and conservative, and who here is non-religious/non-conservative. Then let's compare who has a degree, a job, and a salary, and who wears a cowboy hat, still thinks the earth is less than a few thousand years old, and that gay people aren't "productive" members of society. Wow.
THANKS FOR MISSING THE POINT ASSHOLES!!!! YOU GUYS ARE SO WRONG ABOUT SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE. AS USUAL CONSERVATIVES MISS THE INTENT OF THINGS. IT WAS OBVIOUSLY IMPORTANT FOR THIS REASON: IN KEEPING PERSONAL MORALITY OUT OF DECISIONS THAT AFFECT PEOPLE WITH DIFFERENT MORAL PERCEPTIONS. I CAN TELL YOU THAT I HAVE BEEN UNFAIRLY REPRESENTED BY RELIGIOUS PEOPLE'S POLICIES MY WHOLE LIFE. SO YEAH, SEPARATION OF CHURCH IS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN, IDIOTS, AND IT ISNT HAPPENING.
