I've only ever been on pay as you go so i dont really know how they work. Do you get a new phone after a certain amount of time or something?

Thank you

yes, you get a new phone at the end of your contract but you have to sign a new one. you can also have an upgrade while your contract is still going, but what they will make you do is wait for a certain length of time first, say a year, before they let you start the new contract. for example, my uncle signed a 2-year contract with verizon, got his phone, but after 1 month he figured out he doesn't want it so he had it changed, he signed a new 2-year contract but before that new contract started, he still had to stick to that old contract for a year. so basically, that new phone had a 3-year contract.

Yes you have a contract which can last from 1 year to 2 years, at the end of your contract, you have the choice of upgrading your phone, but if you do you will then be agreeing to a new contract.
People do do it but you normally always get a better deal as a new customer so a lot of people shop around.
