How do I watch MKV-files with my Samsung BD-P4600?

I have connected the blue ray player so I can stream movies, but the player doesn't play mkv-files. How can I watch those files? Must I connect an external movie box? But if I do, how do I do that? I have HDMI to the TV, an optical wire from the digital box to the player.
