How do I use my built in webcam on my Compaq, HP notebook laptop?

I want to be able to make videos with it- and every website I check says to use Quickplay but is there any other way- if not, what are the easy instructions for installing Quickplay- I know i can use it for windows messenger or yahoo messenger- but how do i just record videos in general on it?
