How do I use a 10x macro lens?

I bought an Opteka 10x macro lens because it was on the parts list for a project, but I figured I might as well get an adapter ring so I can mount it to my camera. I tried it on both a zoom lens and a 50mm prime lens. All I see through the viewfinder is a bright blur, whether I'm far away from an object or close to it. There are no instructions in the box. What the H?
