i own a two wheel drive 1996 ford f-150 lx that does not have a positraction/antislip rear end and want to convert it to a 4x4. what do i need to know about my truck to do this? and what do i need to buy to make the conversion? also what are the steps to make the conversion?

It would cost more to convert it than the vehicle is worth. Just keep driving it & save your $ for a truck that is 4WD.

On top of everything already mentioned, sometimes a 4X4 transmission uses a shorter output shaft than a 2X4's. You would need to either tear down your tranny and put in a shorter shaft, or just use a whole 4X4 transmission. Get a new truck.

you would need new drive shafts for the front and rear, a transfer case, front differential, front half shafts, and reflashing the computer.

just buy a 4X4. it would be cheaper.

That would be kind of crazy

but you would probably need to take apart the drivetrain first
