How do i treat a cut on the inside of my lip from my braces?

It looks exactly like an ulcer, but it busted open from contact on the outside of my lip by a softball. Do I treat is as an ulcer and put alum in it, or do I put Carmex on it? I have had it for a week now and have tried both treatments.
