I've been taking Vicoprofen for over a year now for various health issues and I would like to get off of it. Was wondering the best way to taper it. Currently take six 7.5/200mg pills a day. Was thinking I'd start by dropping one pill a week. Is that too fast?

Hi. Wish i knew the answer to your question; I'm doing about the same thing, from about the same dose (hydrocodone/tylenol but basically the same thing). I'm sure it depenRAB somewhat on how long you've been on that dose... but so far I'm not having any problems other than cravings/anxiety. I'm sure it'll get worse when I get to 0 pills. :(

If you feel like talking I'll be around. I expect it to take a couple of weeks before I'm "back to normal".

Best of luck to you!

Thanks for the offer to talk. I'm sure it's gonna get depressing. I know I can do it as I was once on methadone and I kicked it. I do have some Ultracet that I can slowly replace the Vicoprofen with. My doc is just dead set against me staying on the Vicoprofen and I recently had some surgery that I think my have alleviated my chronic pain but I want know for sure until I can get all the narcotics out of my system. I wasn't in nearly as much pain after surgery but, when I didn't take anything I started to get what I believe to be withdrawal pain. Such a long road ahead.

I've done it before too. Fentanyl patches, & a little hydrocodone for BT pain. Was easy then, because the pain went away (long story but basically 10 years of horrible chronic back pain was cured by the right kind of exercise - jiujitsu), & that made the fentanyl give me tons of anxiety. So I started tapering the patches & eventually got off 'em. Was easy because I never felt anything from the fentanyl patches other than pain relief. When they started causing anxiety it was a relief to get off of them. These short term hydrocodone pills are MUCH more addictive. Tolerance rises quickly & they give an endorphin rush, making it mentally harder to kick. This time it's also harder because I'm also getting off Effexor, which I've found belatedly is probably the worst anti-depressant to be on. Thanks to my crappy shrink. Anyhoo... the pain started to get bad again, which was why I got back on these damn hydrocodones, but I've been working on the exercise again & it's going away again. Now to get back off 'em. I'm also having pain when between doses, which I assume is more withdrawal pain than bad back pain. Fun fun fun.

BTW whatever exercise you can do w/ your health problems will help w/ the withdrawal. If your pain is from back problems, exercise will help the pain anyway.

I agree about the exercise. That is my next step as soon as my doc gives me the okay. To make a long story short my incision came open 7 days after surgery and I could not be stitched back up so, it is healing from the inside out and it's almost healed but not quite and I don't want to do anything to disturb that process.
