How do I tan in the outdoors?

I have naturally tan skin (being mixed with black and white) but of course getting a little darker is always nice, how do i do this w/o getting burned? how long? often? when during the day? etc. What SPF to use?

Me and my friends lay out for about one hour to 2 hours and all we wear is tanning oil. It works really well. We also lay on my rook. We lay out at around 2:00 -5:00 anywhere around there is good.

Use spf 15, and 30 on your face.
The sun is strongest between 12 and 3.
Try tanning 15 - 30 minutes every day progressing up from 10 or 15 minutes.

Well, it depends on how strong the UV rays are within the day.

How hot it is isn't necessarily an indicator though, nor how sunny it is.

Trust me on that one; I got the worst sunburn of my life (it actually made me physically sick) on a day where it was cloudy 99% of the day. Me and my friends spent all day in a friends backyard pool.. the sun came out for maybe 10 minutes, and the rest of the day was cloudy. We were out for hours.

From 11am to 2pm are the hours in which the sunlight is the most strong. So it's recommended that you layer up on the sunscreen during this time, or stay in doors. But you can get a tan at any point in the day. I was out for a couple of hours today - from about 3:30 to 6:30 and I burned my back and chest.

Make sure that you have a chapstick that has SPF in it to keep your lips hydrated & protected. Also wear a hat, and even sunglasses to keep you from getting sun-stroke. That isn't fun either!

Make sure when you use sunscreen that it's still okay to use. When sunscreen is beyond it's expiry date, it won't work as efficiently. Thi is especially important if you're using it on children. Watch for this when you're in the stores buying some - make sure that you check the dates on it. Check the dates every summer to make sure your lotion is still good to go!

Reapply sunscreen every so often, especially when you're in the water. It'll rub off faster when you're in water, more so than on land. Reapply every half hour or so when you're swimming. The higher the SPF, the more you're protected!

Have fun in the sun!
(:
