How do i take the crank off my bike?

i cant figure out how to get the crank off my bike. I think its a one piece crank. It had a nut on the left side,(not the drive side) and i took that off, it was a left hand thread, and i got that off, and there are threads where it looks like you could twist the pedal arm off, but i cant, i don't know if its just too tight or if im doing something wrong.
I am painting the bike, and i think im also going to put a 3 piece crank on.
 
Hi mate,
the pedal is also left hand thread, use a GOOD QUALITY spanner and a rubber mallett, and go for it like a man possessed. The crank will then wriggle through the bottom bracket effortlessly.
Why are you removing it out of curiosity?
