How do I synchronise my 1984 Suzuki GS550 carburetors?

I have a 1984 Suzuki GS550 with carb issues. After I clean them, I would like to sync them as well. I have a mercury sync tool. The GS550 has 4 carbs in two bodies with one vacuum port per body. What is the correct way (not trial and error) of balancing all four?
