So there is a girl at my school. I thought we were best friends. But she thought I hated her. We were all on a camping trip. Things got out of hand, and I accidentally slapped her. It wasn't a hard slap, or at least I didn't think it was, (more like a "wake up/tap" slap.) But she thought I was trying to hurt her. I IMMEDIATLEY apologized right after I did it, and said I just lost my temper and that I was SOOOOO sorry. Then she told one of our teachers. I thought it was because she had really gotten hurt and so I apologized again and was let off the hook with a warning.
Note: I'm really popular, because I'm nice to people, not because I'm one of those stereotypical popular girls that are mean to everyone. I try to help out everyone and be the nicest person I can be because I'm Christian, and God wants us to treat everyone how we would want to be treated.
Anyways, she was gossiping about me to some of my friends, and she said that "Her plan backfired, and she only wants to get me in trouble so that everyone thinks I'm a jerk and so everyone hates me."
When I heard that I tried the best that I could to earn her friendship back and be SUPER nice. I invited her to movies, brought her a cookie, and try to make nice, small talk with her.
Now, my friends told me she's trying to learn things about me and my family so she can use them against me. They also said that she's been spreading around that I've bullied her since the 6th grade, and that I get paid for every time I slap someone, and that my family hates hers (which is completely untrue.)
So, I have no idea what to do. I'm trying to be her friend again, but it's not working. I understand it's my fault for slapping her, but apparently, my friends said that she's been trying to do this even before I slapped her, and this just gave her a good oppurtunity. What do I do? I don't want there to be a war between us, and I don't want to get anyone else to get in trouble because they were involved in this mess. I just want it to be over. How do I stop it?
Note: I go to a super small private school. There are only 8 people in my grade, so this is like huge drama. Please help. I know it's not as bad as most of the things that are happening in other people's lives, but I just don't want it to keep getting worse and worse. She's already giving death stares to me and telling people not to talk to me. Please help. Thank you! God bless!
