How do I stop co-worker from eating everyone's food?

There's a co-worker of mine who loves to eat everyone elses food and snacks. During our breaks, everyone is always hurrying to eat their lunches before he comes along and starts helping himself. He never asks for permission.
Unfortunately, my co-workers are afraid to say something because he is their supervisor. He plays it off like a joke whenever they say it's all they have to eat.
He even eats the little candies they leave out for the customers in the front office. Several times a day, he'll waltz on over there and grab a handful until their all gone. This has been going on for months. HR refuses to get involved.
How should I help these people out? He is my buddy too, and I don't want to upset him.
 
I have done the same thing as your co-worker but I don't any more. What helped me is people just kept leaving notes. and then finally came up to me and told me strait out that they are the ones that bought the food and I have no right eating it. It made me feel bad because I had people mad at me. But I didn't do it again because I didn't want them mad at me again.
 
Well get together you all and here is the plan, eat before you come to work, bring stale sandwiches cake or whatever it is, be sure it is hard as a rock, unbeatable, or buy some phoney food in a fake store, hahahaha, i love this, i have seen the faces of some of these guys, hahhahahahaha, sorry but it is a real treat, ( i know you might not be up for this, but hahahahahah, it is a great time, when you get a look at his face)

i do not have any serious answer here, but you might really consider bringing those really stale hard as rock cakes and sandwhiches, or something a bit tainted, not really bad, but bad enough to turn off the duds palate, but he is your friend, you know how practical jokes can backfire but he might get a message if it keeps happening,
