My guess is that you or both of you havent ever had sex before. You should definitely have a talk about it first because honestly, you just do. You should discuss your expectations, what plans of birth control you have etc. Dont have that conversation the same day however, or at least not within the same hour because 1- you should be clear thinking and level headed (not hot and heavy) 2- its kind of a mood spoiler to ask about birth control so you should both already have a plan about it. If you are using a condom make sure one of you knows how to use it correctly. After that just do your thing, do what you guys like to do best whatever that may be. When it gets to that point where you feel like "OK this is it, I am ready I am doing this!" you can either tell him what you want (guys like that) or just go with the whole shedding of clothes. Both are very clear indicators.
