How do I start my own Home A/V business?

I'm 27 years old and have been installing home theater equipment like AV receivers, TV, Speakers, theater operating systems, intercom, ect. for 8 years in California. I'd like to go out on my own so I could sell and install the equipment myself.
If anybody has any knowledge on the situation I'd appreciate so much a list of things I need to do to go completely, legitimately on my own.
I've been told that if I'm gonna do any job over $500 that I'll need my Low-Voltage Contractors License. Is this true?
What is the first step I should take? Contractors License? Business Licence? Re-sale License? Also, what type of insurances will I need for things like vehicles or anything else I might need for work?
Will I need to be bonded, and what type of money am I looking out to be bonded?
Any help is very much appreciated.
