I have a denim skirt that I would like to shorten down to a mini skirt. I don't want it to look cheesy or home made. Help is greatly appreciated;]

If the shirt is presently really long then you would likely need to cut some off the bottom.
You would need to be careful when doing this because the back of a skirt is generally longer than the front of a skirt.

If it only needs to be shortened a little then turn it up to the under side of the fabric one hems length, place stick pins in the hem to hold it in place and sew a stitch along the hemline.

You do not need to make large stitches. The smaller ones farther apart ( approximately 1 inch apart) will show up less on the front of the shirt. Try to keep your stitches the same size and distance apart.
Make sure that the thread you choose blends or matches with the color of the fabric.
When completed do not forget to remove all the stick pins.

There is also iron on hem tape available that you could do the first steps of turning it under the desired length then applying the iron on tape in the part that touches the fabrics together.
Follow the instructions on the iron on hem tape.

Best regards with your mini skirt.

i would just cut it (and inch longer than wanted) then fold the end about a centimeter inside the skirt and sew that it wont look cheesy though then iron it to look flat and your done! :D

I don't know if this will really work, but in theory it seems good.

First cut down the skirt until it is one inch belong how long you actually want it.

Fold the ragged part in so you can't see it. Use a sewing machine or just a string and needle. Bring a string color that is close to the color of the denim or black if you want it to stand out in a nice way. Sew in little even lines about 1/4 inch above the bottom.

And voila.

okay i don't know if this is "cheesy" to you.
this is for a destroyed look.

but take a pair of scissors and cut how short you want it.
then pull some strings down from where you cut.
wash it and the fringe on the bottom should look "destroyed"

i did it with a light abercrombie skirt, and it looks alott cuter :)

hope this helped.

just cut it little bits at a time so you can keep it even and try it on as you are trimming it up. don't cut it right to where you want it to be because it will unravel some when you wash it

you have to take a ruler and cut it straight about 1.5 inches longer than you want it. then, take the 1.5 inches and fold them back inside of the skirt, and sew them down with a sewing machine.

the cheap way would be to take it to a dry cleaner. fold up the skirt to however short you want it, safety pin it there, and take it to the dry cleaners. most of them do hemming/tailoring for fairly cheap. or you could just cut it off wherever you want it and wear it unhemmed, i think that look is cute too.

if u end up cutting it yourself make sure u use super sharp sissors. the ones that look home made are usually done with dull sissors. if the cut is right it will just look like abrecombie

to make it look torn and a little messy, but still good is to:
cut it with scissors and try to be straight accross, then with your fingerse rub the ends and make the white strings come out.

if not you can: cut it with scissors and be REALLY straight accross, then fold have an inch over so yo cant tell you've cut them with siccors then sow it.

:)
