How do I send audio and video from my Macbook Pro to my Samsung DLP tv?

I purchased a DVI cable and a DVI-VGA adapter for my Macbook Pro. I have used this same DVI cable with a PC and succeeded in displaying the image on my tv -- so I know the cable works. I also know the adapter works (or at least for the most part) because immediately upon plugging in the adapter/cable, my MBP screen flashes as if attempting to send the image to the tv, but nothing ever shows up on my tv... When I go to the Input screen on my Samsung DLP, it recognizes my MBP because under PC it says Connected, but when I select that source the screen says No Signal... talk about frustrating!!
I'm not really sure what to do here.. I've tried connecting my MBP to the tv while both devices were off, then turning them back on, but still nothing. I've tried Detecting Displays in System Preferences, along with Mirror Displays, still nothing. I've also tried Gather Windows and it again recognizes my tv because it brings up a box titled Samsung DLP with a suggested resolution of 1024 x 768 and 60 Hertz refresh rate. When I change to this screen resolution, again, nothing happens >:[ grrrrr
Please help meeee! I would greatly appreciate any and all suggestions.
