How do I save a DVD on my computer and then burn copies of it?

I have a disc of a slide show for my graduation that my teacher made. When I put it in, its pulls up quick play. I can also play it under windows media. I have Vista. When I tried to rip it in media, it looked like I can only burn an audio CD. Any step by step instructions for this novice burner? Thanks!
