How do I replace the upper element in a Siemens oven circa 1998?

Is it as easy as it would appear? Like looking at it and with the right replacement element to hand one would think .....'unplug the one installed, then insert the new one in the appropriate plug'. Power off of course at the switch! Or is there some catch to it all?
If interested am now half way (I think!) thru this job but it's not as easy as I thought especially with the Siemens oven I have. There was no way to remove the element without removing the oven as the element was secured with 2 screws from the back. Looking in the oven it appeared that it had been attached with rivets. Just the wrong end of the screws. Now that it's been removed am just waiting for the arrival of the new one and hoping for no more surprises when re-installing. Wiggling it would not have worked - I can assure you Mahlon but thanks for the help. WilliamO
 
Replacing the element should be easy and straight forward, BUT if this is the first time you have ever done it, yes it can be a little daunting.
As you said make sure the oven is not on and no timer to come on is set.
There should be a few brackets that hold the element in place, either by a screw or a friction fit.
Undo these first, this will allow some movement to disconnect the electrical connection.
Once the element is free to move, as suggested wiggle the connection while pulling steadily.

NOTE: many times there are locking devices on these connections, could be a screw or a "tab and catch" system, obviously if a screw... just remove. If a catch system you will have to pry the catch while pulling the connection apart simultaneously
