With a pickup, it is a little easier. The pump is in the gas tank. On a pickup, you can unbolt the bed and tilt it to gain direct access to the top of your gas tank. The tank should be drained well. Putting contaminated gas back into the tank after you're done would freeze the gas guage sensor that's also inside the tank. Dropping the gas tank to get to the pump is a BIG deal on most cars.
