Upon recommendation from a posting on a message board, I deleted the files in my 'C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\eHome\EPG' folder to reclaim disk space (though I didn't touch the 'prefs' folder under it). If I encountered a problem related to this, I could just restore the deleted files from my Recycle Bin.
Only problem is that soon after, a disk clean-up utility cleared out my Recycle Bin. It was after this that I realized my Media Center would no longer load. When trying to start it, the hourglass cursor would flicker a couple of times, then nothing. It turns out the files were required. Sony Vaio customer support's solution is to run a full system recovery, which I want to avoid.
I have a Sony Vaio PCV-RZ54G desktop running WinXP Media Center Edition.
