How do I remove write protection from a compact flash card?

I have 3 CF cards. I don't have the camera I bought these for. I want to copy pictures from my PC (running XP Pro) to the CF cards to run on a digital frame, but each time I try it says 'write protected'. Also if I try to reformat the CF cards it says 'write protected'. I have Fujifilm, FlashCard and Canon CF cards. What can I do?
