How Do I Remove the special html formatting that occurs when I put a link on a picture?

What I mean is: when I set a picture to link to another page it gets a blue border and sort of pops out from its origninal position. I want it to have no special effects at all. I have tried border: 0 and border-style: none but it must be some other property?
