I have accidently brushed a micro-fibre cloth onto my HOT chrome pipes, and now there is black crud left. I have been using Mother's Chrome Polish, which is working slowly, but very labour intensive. Is there anything I can use to remove the thicker, black crud, before using the polish for it's proper use? I've read about using oven cleaner, lacquer thinner, WD40, aluminium foil, and applied on both hot and cold pipes.

Gumout carb choke cleaner spray.

Be very careful with this stuff -- don't get any on any rubber or plastic, don't get any on your hands, don't get any on a painted surface.

try nevrdull magic wading polish, its in every bike shop blue can with red lettering. Basically its a very super fine fiber cloth with a polishing oil in it.

nylon scrounge pad with Honda Chrome Polish

ooooo aaaa ooo-ahhhh that's right you big tough Harley Guys wouldn't lower your dignity by stepping into a rice burner Honda Dealer.
but you guys are missing a lot, Honda Chrome Polish will amaze you what it can do, it will take the bluing off your pipes too!
