How do I remove all data from a flash drive?

I have a 4GB HP flash drive and I put a bunch of pictures on it. I then deleted all of the pictures off of it, but it still says that 2.46 GB are being used, and when i open it up in a folder it shows that it's empty, but that I only have 1.33 GB available. I'm using a mac. Anyone know what could be the problem?
