How do i relocate the stock head unit of a 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix.?

I just bought a Jensen Phase Linear UV8020 2 DIN. I did a little research and found out that it would be a good idea to just move the stock head unit, instead of removing it from my vehicle all togethe in order to retain some of the other components' functionality. I read that the user interface, steering wheel audio controls, and even the airbag deployment are controlled by it. i would obviously like to keep as many of these features as possible. I found the kit i will need, but im not sure how to go about with the installation. i dont realy feel like shelling out another $100 to have it professionally installed. I will have some help from a family friend who done a few installations before, but nothing like this. any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
