I live in a small apartment and recycle like crazy. My city has mixed- stream recycling, so that helps, but here are some things I do:
-keep a paper grocery bag by the door to toss junk mail in - make sure you rip any plastic windows off first. Flatten boxes and put them in here, too.
-shred paper to put in the hamster cage for bedding (saves money, too)
If you don't have a pet, a local animal shelter might appreciate the donation (mine does).
-use heavy-duty magnets to hold a sturdy trash bag to the side of the fridge to toss plastic/glass/cans into (i don't have floor space for a recycling bin). Mine hangs above my trash can with a post-it stuck to the fridge saying "recycle here!" When it gets full, I take it outside.
-save all plastic bags to use for cat litter, lunch bags, or to return to the store (many have recycling bins) Ikea sells bag holders for $2 and you can shove an amazing amount of bags in them. I even recycle things like bread bags - if I use up the bread making a sandwich, I just put the sandwich in it.
-I save almost every food container I get, and bring my lunch to work in it. If I feel like washing it out and bringing it home, I do, but if not, at least I used it again. Many of them will stack inside each other - I keep them all in a bin in a cupboard.
below are links to the ikea bag saver, and some recycling tips. Good luck!
