how do i record stuff from my ps3 with an hdmi cable hooked up?

i want to record gameplay without needing a camcorder. i keep hearing people say capture card or dazzle or something, but i cannot do that with a hdmi cable in, is there a way to record gameplay footage that is compatible with hdmi?
