How do I record off my satellite using my DVD recorder?

My TV options are: Video 1, Video 2, and Channel 3. We watch the satellite on Channel 3 but the DVD recorder/player is only used on Video 2. I tried recording off the dish but I just ended up with a black screen. I know it has somthing to do with the channel option on the TV but I have no idea how to make it so I can record off my dish.
 
hook up your dish throgh the audio video cables red white yellow try recording it that way or if ur dvd recorder has a rf input the cable you use for the dish on channel 3. my dish is hooked up through my component cables so that might help.
